About the Carp Action Alliance
What is the Carp Action Alliance?
The Carp Action Alliance is a national, cross-sector initiative created to drive a more coordinated response to invasive European carp across Australia’s rivers and wetlands.
Carp are one of Australia’s most serious aquatic environmental challenges. They damage river health, reduce water quality, disturb wetlands, affect native fish and aquatic biodiversity, and undermine the social, cultural and economic values that healthy waterways support.
Across Australia, significant effort has already gone into carp research, management trials and on-ground action. What has been missing is a practical way to connect that work, share what is being learned, and turn local effort into consistent national progress.
The Carp Action Alliance exists to fill that gap. It brings together government, research, industry, farming, fishing, conservation and community interests through one coordinated platform focused on practical, evidence-based action.

Our Story
The Carp Action Alliance grew from the Murray–Darling Basin Carp Action Summit, held in April 2026 and co-hosted by the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) and the Australian River Restoration Centre (ARRC).

The Summit brought together around 80 delegates from 41 organisations across farming, fishing, processing, research, conservation and natural resource management. Participants built a shared understanding of the scale and urgency of the carp problem, and agreed that future progress depends on stronger coordination as well as continued research and local action.
That shared commitment led to the establishment of the Carp Action Alliance: a platform designed to keep momentum going, connect people and projects, and support practical carp management at scale.
Less talk. More action.

Founding Partners
The Carp Action Alliance grew from the Murray–Darling Basin Carp Action Summit, held in April 2026 and co-hosted by the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) and the Australian River Restoration Centre (ARRC).
The Victorian Fisheries Authority is proud to be a founding partner of the Carp Action Alliance. Carp are a shared problem across jurisdictions, and managing them effectively requires shared effort. By co-hosting the Carp Action Summit and helping establish the Alliance, we are supporting a coordinated national approach that connects governments, researchers, First Nations peoples, recreational fishers and communities in pursuit of healthier rivers and native fish.
The Australian River Restoration Centre is proud to be a founding partner of the Carp Action Alliance because effective carp management requires more than individual projects or isolated solutions. By helping establish the Alliance, we are supporting a national conversation that connects researchers, governments, First Nations peoples, community groups and industry around a shared goal of healthier rivers and wetlands.
Carp Action Alliance Partners
Carp Action Alliance Partners are organisations and groups contributing expertise, practical experience and local knowledge to help build a coordinated national response to carp. Together, they connect research, policy, on-ground delivery and community experience so carp management can move from isolated effort to shared action.
Join the Carp Action Alliance
The Carp Action Alliance is open to organisations that want to contribute to practical, evidence-based carp management. Becoming an Alliance Partner means taking part in a national platform for action, collaboration and shared learning. It is not just about being part of a network or placing a logo on a website. It is about doing something useful, sharing what works, and helping others understand what is possible.
If your organisation is working on carp management, river restoration or healthier waterways, we would like to hear from you.
